Review:

". . . a group show featuring Alexis Smith, Lari Pittman, Jeffrey Vallance, and Grant Mudford working in characteristic mediums and styles. It also includes two paintings/assemblages by a new member of the stable, Greg Brown.
One gallery viewer labeled his works "repulsive". Indeed they are, but powerfully so. Beginning with acrylic on canvas, in "Out of Town", Brown has created a hyper-kitsch landscape. He employs cheap bunches of fiber for blossoms on a tree along with fake grass and fake fur -- all backgrounded by a wan blue. These pieces indulge our modern taste for the miserable (to borrow Duchamp's phrase) in an arresting way."
Robert L. Pincus, Los Angeles Times, December 9, 1983.
