Pod Paintings

Drawing in painting is a recurring activity in my artistic practice. With my “pod paintings” I explore spontaneous but minimal line compositions with pod shapes defining their ends. Interacting, almost dancing with each other, like swirling seaweed, they are meant to be clumsy but expressive. In contrast to hard-edge minimalism, with exacting design, the clumsy artist’s hand evident in these paintings exude a playful personality. However, with specific use of color, shape, and composition they are serious design. Pushing the drawing style to collage, I add torn tissue paper and hybrid cartoony mechanical elements to the organic whole. These works are meant to be animated and joyful.
